About the role

The Hazard Mitigation Coordinator provides essential assistance to state and local applicants seeking federal Hazard Mitigation Assistance funding. Working under the Hazard Mitigation Coordinator, the role supports resilient infrastructure projects and ensures compliance with federal grant programs.

Key responsibilities

• Assist applicants through briefings, application review, and technical guidance for BRIC and HMGP programs.
• Ensure timely and accurate submission of applications and related documentation.
• Deliver mitigation training sessions and information workshops.
• Review sub‑grantee payment requests, reconcile project finances, and monitor compliance.
• Conduct post‑completion inspections and resolve routine issues.
• Provide regular status updates, reports, and budget reviews.
• Coordinate with internal staff on mitigation projects and serve in the State Emergency Operations Center during emergencies or drills.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (any discipline).
• Experience in mitigation, grant administration, or project management preferred.
• South Carolina Certified Emergency Manager certification preferred or attainable within three years.
• Ability to interpret regulations, communicate effectively, and maintain professional relationships.
• Computer literacy and ability to meet security requirements for system access.
• Willingness to travel overnight as needed (reimbursed).
