Elementary Chinese Immersion Teacher (Pre‑K to Grade 5)

About the role

The Maryland public school system is creating a pool of qualified elementary Chinese immersion teachers for students from Pre‑K through grade 5. Selected candidates will be placed in schools across the district as openings become available.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and adapt Chinese‑language instruction and general curriculum for early‑grade students.
• Supervise students in classroom and school‑wide settings, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
• Monitor and evaluate student progress, maintaining accurate records of outcomes.
• Communicate regularly with students, parents, and staff to support student development.
• Develop and modify instructional materials to meet diverse learning needs.
• Oversee proper use and care of classroom equipment, materials, and facilities.

Required profile

• Fluent bilingual in Chinese (both spoken and written) and English.
• Maryland state certification for elementary education or eligibility to obtain it.
• Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Knowledge of MCPS curriculum, policies, and effective instructional practices.
• Ability to collaborate with administrators, colleagues, parents, and the broader community.
