Electronic Repair Engineer

About the role

NXP is hiring an Electronic Repair Engineer in Austin. The role involves repairing, upgrading, modifying or verifying sub-components of complex automatic or logic-controlled electronic and electromechanical equipment at the component level, working independently in a high-pressure environment.

Key responsibilities

• Use advanced diagnostic techniques and improvise circuits or equipment to meet special needs
• Analyze major malfunctions to the component level and perform calibrations traceable to the National Bureau of Standards
• Set up, operate and adjust complex instrumentation
• Provide accurate repair estimates for cost and time, and document repair procedures while training others
• Maintain stocking levels of key components and interface with customers, suppliers, employees and management
• Lift 50+ pounds and follow electrical, chemical and mechanical safety procedures

Required profile

• BS degree in Electrical Engineering plus three to four years of directly related electro-mechanical experience
• Ability to troubleshoot to the component level and interpret electrical datasheets
• Previous hardware engineering experience in repair highly preferred
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable

Required skills

• Proficient soldering and de-soldering, including surface mount, ball grid array and high-density components
• Knowledge of analog, digital and RF electronics and moderate circuit design
• LabVIEW, Python, Multi-Sim or equivalent electrical design software
• Hardware programming languages such as JTAG
• High-power DC supply repair, testing and calibration (1kW to 80kW)
• AC and DC servo/stepper motor rebuild and test
• Embedded systems hardware and firmware (CPLD, FPGA, MPU)
• Basic Microsoft Office and ability to learn database programs
