Job description
About the role
Amentum is seeking an Electrical/Mechanical Integration Field Engineer in Crane, Indiana, for a hands-on role combining electrical troubleshooting, mechanical installation support, wiring documentation, test support and technician mentorship. The team supports U.S. Navy research and development facilities involved in high-priority submarine weapon system programs. The position is not desk-only; the engineer works from schematics, wiring diagrams and mechanical drawings to support installation, checkout, fault isolation and configuration updates.
Key responsibilities
- Perform hands-on electrical installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of low-voltage systems, sensors, wiring harnesses, connectors and instrumentation.
- Support mechanical installation and integration of brackets, panels, enclosures, mounts, conduit, raceways and junction boxes.
- Work from wiring diagrams, schematics, harness and mechanical drawings to support installation, verification and fault isolation.
- Inspect installed hardware against design intent, drawings, interface requirements, safety standards and field constraints.
- Troubleshoot low-voltage circuits, signal paths, sensor networks, grounding and connector issues using multimeters, oscilloscopes, continuity testers, signal analyzers and data acquisition tools.
- Assist with fit checks, alignment checks, cable routing and connector-access evaluations.
- Document field observations, discrepancies, corrective actions, redlines, as-built conditions and test results.
- Take part in reviewing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness and mechanical drawings, and evaluate design changes for fit, form, function, signal integrity and safety.
- Generate and review work packages, test procedures, installation instructions and troubleshooting guides.
- Mentor field technicians on wiring practices, cable management, connector handling, sensor installation and mounting, and help develop training materials and wiring standards.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, designers, technicians, vendors and operations staff, and feed field lessons learned back into engineering documentation.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related) preferred; equivalent hands-on experience may be considered.
- 3-12 years of hands-on field engineering, electrical troubleshooting, instrumentation, test, maintenance, installation or hardware-integration experience.
- Must obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting electrical systems, wiring harnesses, sensors, connectors, signal paths, grounding and continuity faults.
- Demonstrated ability to support mechanical integration such as equipment and sensor mounting, bracket and enclosure installation and cable routing.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, harness drawings and mechanical drawings.
