Electrical Engineering Co‑Op – Summer 2027

About the role

Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon Surgical Technologies is seeking Electrical Engineering Co‑Ops for the Summer 2027 term in Cincinnati, Ohio. You will work on the development of electrical and electromechanical surgical instruments, robotics, and operating‑room equipment, gaining hands‑on product development experience.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to design, testing, and validation of surgical instruments and robotic systems.
• Perform experiments, data acquisition, and analysis using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
• Assist with circuit design, firmware development, PCB fabrication, and prototype assembly.
• Support multiple 3‑4 month rotations, increasing responsibilities over time.

Required profile

• Enrolled in an accredited program pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (sophomore or above).
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 and legal authorization to work in the United States for the full co‑op term.
• Demonstrated leadership or participation in campus or community activities.
• Interest in the medical‑device industry.

Required skills

• Analog hardware design and analysis.
• Embedded systems experience (microcontrollers, Arduino, Raspberry Pi).
• Circuit board troubleshooting and use of lab equipment (oscilloscope, digital multimeter).
• Proficiency in MATLAB, Python or similar scripting languages.
• Basic knowledge of statistical analysis or design of experiments (Minitab, SAS, R).
