About the role
Johnson & Johnson is seeking a Principal Scientist to lead preclinical surgical research, focusing on cardiovascular procedures. The role combines hands‑on surgery with technical leadership to evaluate medical devices across animal, cadaveric and inanimate models.
Key responsibilities
- Design and execute surgical investigations for product development and preclinical evidence generation.
- Evaluate device functionality, efficacy and safety using open, laparoscopic and robotic techniques.
- Provide unbiased biomedical recommendations to ETHICON teams on new technologies.
- Collaborate with the Preclinical Research team to develop and apply clinically relevant animal models.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local and corporate regulations.
Required profile
- Doctorate degree (DVM/VMD or MD) with surgical residency and board certification preferred.
- Extensive experience in cardiovascular surgery and interventional procedures.
- Proven ability to work independently and lead preclinical staff.
- Strong communication skills and ability to document and present study results.
Required skills
- Cardiovascular surgical expertise
- Fluoroscopic angiography in large animals
- Open, laparoscopic and (desired) robotic surgical techniques
- GLP study execution with contract research organizations
- Knowledge of preclinical regulatory requirements (FDA and international)
