Electrical Engineer – Avionics Design

About the role

We are seeking an Avionics Electrical Engineer to join our Air Dominance and Strike (AD&S) Electrical Engineering team in Costa Mesa, CA. You will work on high‑reliability avionics, embedded processing, and power systems for next‑generation autonomous air platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Lead full‑cycle PCB design: gather requirements, create schematics, select components, supervise layout, conduct bring‑up, test, debug and integrate systems.
• Perform microcontroller bring‑up and integration, ensuring seamless operation within the overall system.
• Troubleshoot cross‑disciplinary electrical and software issues using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, DMM, logic/spectrum analyzers) and software debugging tools.
• Develop power management solutions, create system interconnect diagrams, and define wire harnesses for electronic subsystems.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, software, firmware, and test engineers and participate in peer‑level design reviews.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with at least 3 years of experience in complex system design, testing and troubleshooting.
• Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. security clearance.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and oral.

Required skills

• Full‑cycle PCB design, mixed‑signal board layout, impedance matching, grounding and filtering.
• Microcontroller bring‑up, low‑level firmware debugging.
• Power system analysis, power management design, battery and AC power integration.
• Proficiency with lab test equipment: benchtop power supplies, electronic loads, oscilloscopes, DMM, logic/spectrum analyzers, thermal and EMI test chambers.
• Familiarity with common bus interfaces: CAN, I2C, SPI, Ethernet, RS232/422, RS485, USB.
