Early Career Specialty Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering and nuclear facilities, is looking for an Early Career Specialty Mechanical Engineer to join its Nuclear Projects team in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. You will work alongside mid- and senior-level engineers designing systems for engineering projects, with a strong preference for an in-office position.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing machine drawings (ASME Y14.5), material and equipment specifications, and stress analysis calculations
• Prepare mechanical specifications for conveyors, hoists, cranes, lifts and dollies, and design specifications for remote handling equipment such as pick-and-place robots, gantries and end effectors
• Contribute to containment design using gloveboxes, hoods and hot cells
• Oversee system design for compliance with applicable codes, standards and customer requirements
• Carry out field inspections and walkdowns of existing mechanical systems

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
• General understanding of machine design and machine drawings
• Ability to use SolidWorks design software unassisted
• U.S. citizenship, valid driver's license, and ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
• Willingness to pass a pre-employment drug and background check
• Physical ability to lift up to 35 lbs 25% of the time and to sit for long periods; regular attendance and occasional overtime required
