Discrimination Law Investigator

About the role

The Utah Labor Commission seeks a Discrimination Law Investigator to examine allegations of employment and housing discrimination, as well as unpaid wage claims. This full‑time hybrid position allows qualified candidates to work both onsite for training and remotely within Utah.

Key responsibilities

• Review complaints of employment and housing discrimination, harassment, denial of reasonable accommodation, and retaliatory actions.
• Act as a hearing officer on unpaid‑wage claims and issue administrative orders.
• Interview complainants, respondents, and witnesses; gather and evaluate evidence.
• Conduct legal research and draft written determinations, findings of fact, and legal conclusions.
• Prepare concise legal decisions and orders that comply with state and federal standards.
• Respond to inquiries, provide presentations, and deliver instruction to staff or the public.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal training/experience.
• Strong legal writing and analytical abilities.
• Excellent communication and interview skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
• Proficiency in Google Docs.
