Director, Research Engineering & Operations

About the role

The Center for Applied Communications and Networks (CACN) seeks a Director of Research Engineering & Operations to lead its engineering and research functions. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will guide both strategic and day‑to‑day activities, ensuring the Center delivers cutting‑edge wireless and wired network solutions for public safety, critical infrastructure, and national defense.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the operational and engineering teams, representing the Executive Director in their absence.
• Develop and execute the Center’s strategic plan, including budgeting and resource allocation.
• Oversee basic and applied research, development, testing, and evaluation of network and communications systems.
• Drive design, implementation, and testing of innovative solutions for next‑generation networks.
• Propose, conduct, and report on research initiatives; serve as Principal Investigator or subject‑matter expert on projects and contracts.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in research engineering or related technical fields.
• Strong background in network systems, wireless and wired communications, and large‑scale research operations.
• Ability to make high‑impact technical and operational decisions.
• Experience with strategic planning, budget management, and resource coordination.
