About the role
The University of Miami seeks a senior leader to direct its Division of Veterinary Resources (DVR) and serve as the Attending Veterinarian for its AAALAC‑accredited animal research program across three campuses. This role reports to the Vice Provost for Research and Scholarship and shapes the strategic direction of animal care and use.
Key responsibilities
- Provide senior leadership for DVR, aligning animal research services with university goals.
- Develop and execute strategic plans for animal facilities, personnel, and resources.
- Manage physical assets, including facilities, equipment, and space utilization.
- Lead funding proposals for infrastructure and major equipment purchases.
- Oversee implementation of animal management software to improve operational efficiency.
- Serve as a voting member of the IACUC and IBC, ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Maintain AAALAC accreditation and prepare for site visits.
- Foster relationships with principal investigators and research teams to deliver high‑quality animal care.
Required profile
- DVM degree with a valid veterinary license.
- Extensive experience in managing animal research facilities or veterinary services.
- Proven leadership and strategic planning abilities.
- Deep knowledge of federal and institutional animal welfare regulations (AWAR, PHS Policy, AAALAC).
Required skills
- Proficiency with animal management software/systems.
- Expertise in regulatory compliance frameworks for animal research.
