Director of Operations – Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

About the role

The Director, IPT Leader, Pharm Ops will lead the Integrated Process Team for pharmaceutical operations at the new small‑molecule manufacturing site in Elkton, VA. This senior position shapes the operating model, drives site ramp‑up, and ensures safe, compliant, and efficient production.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the future‑state operating model, organizational structure, governance, and performance standards for the site.
• Lead site start‑up, ramp‑up, and operational readiness activities, including risk assessments, resource planning, and cross‑functional coordination.
• Ensure safe, compliant, reliable pharmaceutical operations through daily management routines, problem solving, and continuous improvement.
• Provide financial stewardship for budget planning, capital spend, and productivity improvements.
• Promote a strong quality and safety culture, overseeing cGMP compliance, deviation management, and inspection readiness.
• Lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing team, fostering accountability, collaboration, and talent development.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering or related field; 10+ years experience in regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing.
• Proven leadership in manufacturing, technical operations, quality, engineering or production planning with direct and indirect reports.
• Strong business acumen, financial stewardship experience, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex environment.
• Experience with site start‑up, transformation or ramp‑up and applying Lean Six Sigma or continuous‑improvement methodologies.
