Director of Operations

About the role

The Director of Operations is a key member of the leadership team, guiding and overseeing the firm's overall business operations. Working closely with Ownership and the Chief Financial Officer, the role keeps the practice running smoothly while supporting strategic initiatives and delivering high-quality project outcomes. It leads the People Operations and Business Development teams and fosters a collaborative, positive workplace culture. This is a full-time, in-person position in the Bozeman office.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with firm leadership on long-term strategy, including growth, profitability and succession planning
• Oversee business operations, policy development, compliance, risk management and ethical standards
• Support financial performance and budgeting with the CFO, and establish and track key performance metrics
• Lead business development, client acquisition, relationship management and pipeline growth
• Oversee proposals, contracts and project planning; manage staffing, workload forecasting and resource allocation
• Monitor project schedules, scopes, budgets and profitability
• Standardize workflows, oversee IT systems, technology and facilities management
• Lead People Operations, including engagement, performance management and HR compliance

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture required
• At least 10 years of progressive leadership experience in operations, preferably in an architectural or design firm
• Experience managing budgets, analyzing financial data and leading cross-functional teams
• Preferred: advanced degree (M.Arch, MBA or related), architectural licensure, and experience in high-end residential or design-build environments
