Director of Operations for Field Education Programs

About the role

The Director of Operations leads the operational systems, people, and resources that support high‑quality residential and place‑based education programs for visiting schools and groups within Teton Science Schools’ Outdoor Learning School.

Key responsibilities

• Provide operational leadership for the Field Education team, contributing to strategic planning and innovation.
• Supervise, coach, and develop members of the Field Education operations team, supporting hiring, onboarding, and performance management.
• Lead logistics for program scheduling, registration, transportation, gear, food service coordination, reservations, and pre‑arrival communication.
• Oversee program administration, budgets, risk management, and operational partnerships across Teton Science Schools.
• Partner with visiting groups to deliver customized, high‑quality place‑based education experiences.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
• Wilderness First Responder, CPR, and AED certification, or ability to obtain them.
• Proven experience leading operations, programs, or teams in outdoor, experiential, or environmental education settings.
• Strong program management, organizational, and risk‑management skills in dynamic environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to collaborate across internal and external partners.

Required skills

• Experience supervising, coaching, and developing staff.
• Ability to manage complex logistics, schedules, and competing priorities.
• Budget management and resource allocation experience.
