Director of Manufacturing Quality

About the role

The Director of Manufacturing Quality will lead global strategic and operational initiatives to ensure world‑class manufacturing quality across all Axcelis production sites. This senior leader will partner with Manufacturing Operations, Engineering, Supplier and Customer Quality to embed quality at the source, reduce escapes, and continuously improve factory performance.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute a global Manufacturing Quality strategy aligned with business growth.
• Own manufacturing quality performance metrics such as defect rates, rework, scrap, escapes, and DOAs.
• Establish standardized workmanship requirements, inspection plans, quality gates and control plans.
• Lead root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, and structured problem‑solving (8D, A3).
• Oversee ISO 9001‑compliant quality systems within the Axcelis Management System.
• Conduct internal audits, factory readiness reviews and process assessments.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with Engineering, Supply Chain, Supplier Quality and Customer Quality.
• Monitor and report quality KPIs, champion Lean, 5S, Six Sigma and SPC initiatives.

Required profile

• Strategic, hands‑on quality leader with extensive experience in high‑technology manufacturing.
• Proven ability to scale quality systems and drive continuous improvement.
• Strong track record of partnering with operations, engineering and supply‑chain functions.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
