Director of EnMed Research

About the role

The Director of EnMed Research will lead strategic research development for the School of Engineering Medicine (SEM) at Texas A&M University. Reporting to SEM leadership, the role focuses on building collaborative, interdisciplinary research programs that bridge engineering and medicine, and on securing extramural funding to advance translational science.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of SEM’s research strategy aligned with institutional priorities.
• Facilitate multidisciplinary collaborations between SEM faculty, Houston Methodist Research Institute, and the broader Texas Medical Center ecosystem.
• Identify and pursue extramural funding opportunities, supporting faculty in high‑quality grant proposal preparation.
• Oversee the establishment and management of core research facilities that support SEM’s mission.
• Evaluate research program effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven experience in strategic research leadership within an engineering, medical, or translational research environment.
• Demonstrated ability to build and manage collaborative research teams across institutions.
• Strong track record of securing external research funding.
• Excellent communication skills to engage senior stakeholders and external partners.
