Director of Developer Productivity

About the role

Lead the engineering organization that defines how hundreds of services are built, deployed, and operated at BILL. You will own the AI‑augmented developer platform, drive company‑wide tooling standards, and shape the future of fintech automation.

Key responsibilities

• Define strategy and roadmap for AI‑driven developer tooling and service platform across 250+ services.
• Lead change management to standardize build and ship processes, including service templating and AI‑based security guardrails.
• Grow and mentor a team of engineers and engineering managers, restoring stability after organizational changes.
• Architect infrastructure to embed coding assistants into daily workflows and deliver fast, containerized local development environments.
• Collaborate with engineering managers, architects, product, and the CTO to align platform investments with company strategy.

Required profile

• 12+ years of software engineering or infrastructure experience, with at least 5 years leading platform or DevX teams at director level.
• Proven success scaling AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., AI pair programmers, automated code review) for 300+ engineers.
• Demonstrated ability to drive organization‑wide engineering standards and tooling rollouts.
• Strong executive communication skills and experience influencing cross‑functional stakeholders.

Required skills

• Kubernetes (k8s) and container orchestration.
• ArgoCD and GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
• AWS cloud services.
• AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude.
• Modern DevOps practices and infrastructure‑as‑code.
