Director, Hardware Engineering

About the role

REGENT is scaling its innovative Seaglider transportation platform and needs a seasoned leader to guide the hardware engineering organization through rapid growth and certification. As Director, you will inherit a strong technical foundation and be responsible for strengthening leadership, improving execution, and building systems that enable scale.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a 30+ person multidisciplinary hardware team covering structures, electrical, and mechanical systems.
• Coach functional managers, building a high‑performing leadership layer with clear accountability.
• Establish operating cadences, decision‑making mechanisms, and accountability systems to keep work moving.
• Own the hardware side of the engineering operating system, including configuration management, design reviews, documentation standards, release processes, and requirements traceability.
• Partner with software engineering, PMO, and manufacturing to align hardware delivery with test campaigns, certification milestones, and production readiness.

Required profile

• Proven senior engineering leadership in aerospace, defense, marine, automotive or similar hardware‑intensive industries, especially in start‑up environments.
• Track record of managing and developing engineering managers and senior technical leads.
• Experience stepping into an established organization, quickly assessing strengths and gaps, and driving meaningful change without disrupting momentum.
• Strong change‑management instincts and ability to scale engineering processes for certification and production.
