Director, Defense

About the role

Umbra is seeking a Defense Director to lead and expand its portfolio of space‑based capabilities for U.S. defense and intelligence customers. Based in Reston or Arlington, VA, you will act as the primary liaison between Umbra and government stakeholders, shaping product strategy and ensuring the delivery of secure, resilient space solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and grow a high‑performing team across business development, capture, and program management.
• Define and prioritize product roadmaps that align with DoD and IC mission requirements.
• Lead strategic campaign planning, proposal development, and RFI responses.
• Collaborate with peer directors to maintain scalable, compliant processes.
• Provide technical oversight, risk identification, and proactive customer support.

Required profile

• Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Experience delivering briefings to senior leadership and building trusted customer relationships.
• Strong understanding of U.S. defense acquisition and space warfighting architecture.
