Desktop Support Technician

About the role

The University of Miami’s UMIT Department is seeking a full‑time Desktop Support Technician to provide technical assistance to academic and administrative staff in Coral Gables, Florida. You will be the first point of contact for desktop and network issues, ensuring timely and professional service.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the initial contact for troubleshooting desktop, laptop, and network problems.
• Prioritize, track, and resolve help‑desk tickets while maintaining clear documentation.
• Install, configure, test, and certify desktop computers, peripherals, and software.
• Perform hardware moves, migrations, and decommissioning of outdated equipment.
• Verify software functionality and escalate unresolved issues to senior staff.
• Adhere to university policies and safeguard institutional assets.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent with at least one year of relevant technical support experience.
• Strong learning agility and ability to adapt to new technologies and procedures.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Commitment to delivering quality customer service in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting desktop computers and peripheral devices.
• Experience with software installation, driver updates, and basic hardware moves.
• Ability to manage and close service tickets using a help‑desk system.
