Design Engineer

About the role

As Chai Discovery’s first design engineer you will shape how scientists interact with cutting‑edge drug‑design models. This design‑and‑build role requires you to own the interaction paradigm from early sketches through to polished, shipped interfaces, making complex molecular biology feel intuitive and visually striking.

Key responsibilities

• Define and own the interaction paradigm for scientists using advanced drug‑design models, from low‑fi sketches to production‑ready interfaces.
• Design intuitive, visually compelling UI for complex molecular biology data, ensuring clarity and aesthetic quality.
• Collaborate closely with engineers to translate designs into front‑end code and maintain a seamless hand‑off.

Required profile

• 5+ years of product design experience with a portfolio that shows end‑to‑end ownership of complex tools for domain experts.
• Proven ability to move from sketch to Figma to interactive prototype to production front‑end implementation.
• Experience designing AI‑first products and a bias for simplicity in highly technical domains.
• Strong communication skills to articulate design decisions and synthesize scientific concepts for cross‑functional teams.
