Design Engineer

About the role

Hotplate is looking for its first Design Engineer to shape the visual and interactive experience for thousands of chefs and millions of customers. You will own the look and feel of the product, evolve the existing design system, and create new UI components that enable rapid feature development.

Key responsibilities

• Upgrade and maintain the visual design of existing product features.
• Design and build UI for new product areas as they are shipped.
• Collaborate closely with engineers to define UI specifications for upcoming features.
• Co‑develop visual rewrites with the CEO and encode design patterns into AI‑driven tooling.
• Ensure consistency and scalability of the design system across all projects.

Required profile

• Passionate about UX/UI and obsessive about interaction details.
• Comfortable moving quickly from prototype to polished implementation.
• Strong sense of design craftsmanship and attention to detail.
• Ability to think in systems and create reusable, maintainable components.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Figma for design work.
• Front‑end engineering skills with TypeScript, React, SolidJS, CSS, and animations.
