Design Engineer – Body

About the role

The Design Engineer – Body will create and develop mechanical designs for body systems and components of late‑model air‑cooled Porsche vehicles. Using Catia V5 and other CAD tools, the role focuses on body‑in‑white, exterior, closures, exterior trim, and glass systems, ensuring designs meet performance, cost, timing, and manufacturing requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Conceptualize and produce mechanical designs for new body systems using Catia V5 and other CAD software.
• Develop deep expertise in assigned systems such as BIW, exterior, closures, trim, and glass.
• Plan and execute part evaluations, validation plans, and durability testing on vehicles.
• Interface with and manage suppliers to ensure timely delivery of technical requirements.
• Collaborate with global Design, Production Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Production teams to deliver manufacturable solutions.
• Lead process‑improvement activities, applying Lean or Six Sigma methodologies where appropriate.
• Review and approve 3D models, 2D drawings, and specifications created by junior engineers.
• Prepare documentation, work instructions, and exploded‑view manuals to support manufacturing and service.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance throughout the product lifecycle.

Required profile

• Proven experience in automotive body design and development.
• Ability to lead component and system development from concept through release.
• Strong collaboration skills with cross‑functional and global teams.
• Experience managing supplier relationships and technical deliverables.
• Capability to drive continuous improvement and cost‑reduction initiatives.

Required skills

• Catia V5 (mandatory) and other CAD tools.
• 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation.
