Design & Documentation Technician

About the role

The Robert E. Morris, a division of Morris Group, Inc. (one of the largest machine tool distribution networks in North America), is hiring a Design & Documentation Technician in Windsor, CT. The technician creates as-built documentation packages for custom equipment installed on machine tools in the company's tech center, works with sales engineering and the integration team leader to prioritize projects and standardize designs, and passes documentation to install technicians and customers.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support by phone and email to technicians installing options covered in the documentation, and update documents when needed
• Create and document design changes based on root cause analyses of field issues
• Document electrical and mechanical systems, including 3-phase power, low-voltage controls, motor controls, PLC, hydraulics, filtration, refrigeration, sheet metal fabrication and fixturing
• Maintain option documentation and bills of materials, request quotations and place orders for materials
• Travel to customers' sites when required to witness final installation details, with overnight travel possible

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent experience
• Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems
• Ability to understand and create drawings, schematics and models with 2D and 3D CAD software
• Ability to translate design information into clear procedures and written descriptions
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs with assistance, sit for long periods and work in manufacturing environments with noise and machinery
