Deli Team Leader

About the role

Meijer is looking for a Deli Team Leader in McCordsville who plans, directs and supervises the day-to-day operations of the deli department. The leader mentors and coaches team members, drives customer service and sales, keeps the store appearance up to standard during peak hours and is accountable for the department's P&L, sales and shrink.

Key responsibilities

• Provide courteous, friendly and efficient service to customers and team members, and spend most of the time in the store.
• Handle staffing, selection and hiring to meet staffing needs, and promote succession planning with career paths and promotion accountability.
• Document and apply disciplinary actions and recommend discharge where needed.
• Manage the department's P&L, sales and shrink, and model fast, friendly customer service.
• Mentor and coach team members so they exceed customer service and sales goals and maintain Meijer standards.
• Ensure the team is fully trained and has completed all required training.
• Promote a safe work environment and communicate the Meijer Friendly Initiative in all team meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2-3 years of related retail experience.
• One year of management experience.
• Rotational experience in other store areas such as meat, bakery, produce and deli, plus customer service and product flow experience, is helpful.
• Reliable and consistent attendance required.

Required skills

• Clear communication and conflict resolution, with attention to root causes.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and analyse financial and statistical information.
• Ability to teach suggestive selling and to mentor team members, including hourly workers and team leaders.
• Successful completion of all required certifications.
