Data Scientist (Hybrid)

About the role

We are a small, data‑driven team supporting the University of Michigan’s philanthropy initiatives. As a Data Scientist you will turn messy, real‑world data into actionable insights, building reusable code, statistical models, and interactive visualisations while collaborating closely with Marketing and Communications.

Key responsibilities

• Write clean, reusable code for statistical analysis and data mining.
• Develop interactive dashboards and web applications for stakeholders.
• Perform extensive data munging, wrangling, and preparation of large, heterogeneous datasets.
• Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team on data‑driven projects.
• Conduct data management, analysis, and visualisation tasks.
• Participate in outreach, usability testing, and brainstorming sessions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Business Intelligence, Analytics, Finance, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of experience in information retrieval, data analysis, or related disciplines.
• Strong ability to clean, merge, and standardise large datasets.
• Proven track record of turning data into clear, actionable recommendations.
• Excellent communication skills for presenting technical findings to non‑technical audiences.

Required skills

• SQL for data extraction and manipulation.
