Data Management Officer – Institutional Research

About the role

The Data Management Officer (DMO) is a senior administrative position within the Institutional Research and Effectiveness unit at Prairie View A&M University. The DMO leads enterprise‑wide data governance, stewardship and compliance initiatives, ensuring alignment with Texas Senate Bill 475 and university data policies.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and continuously improve enterprise data governance policies, standards and procedures.
• Act as subject‑matter expert for data governance councils and steward committees, providing guidance on policy interpretation.
• Coordinate with functional leaders, IT and research teams to ensure consistent data definitions, taxonomies and standards across academic and administrative domains.
• Oversee the creation and maintenance of an institutional data inventory, documenting sources, owners, business rules and usage.
• Drive compliance with SB 475, including maturity assessments, reporting and remediation planning.
• Ensure data privacy, security and appropriate lifecycle management throughout the institution.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior data management or governance roles, preferably in higher education.
• Deep knowledge of data architecture, metadata management and data lifecycle processes.
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and influence policy adoption.
• Strong understanding of analytics platforms and best practices for data quality and compliance.
