Data Architect

About the role

The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis is looking for a Data Architect to lead the technical vision and long‑term architecture of its global economic research platforms, including FRED and FRASER. The role will modernise the data architecture that powers massive collections of economic time‑series, archival documents and research publications, ensuring scalable, secure and performant access for millions of users worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Define and evolve the target data architecture for economic data systems, supporting billions of observations and historical revisions.
• Design scalable storage and processing frameworks on cloud platforms, primarily AWS.
• Develop and standardise metadata schemas to improve discoverability, lineage and governance across platforms.
• Implement indexing and search strategies to enable fast dataset discovery and API access.
• Collaborate with the Application/Enterprise Architect to optimise data access patterns for external‑facing services.
• Drive adoption of DataOps practices, modern data‑stack tools and data‑privacy compliance.

Required profile

• 7+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering or large‑scale enterprise cloud data implementations.
• Proven track record designing public‑facing, high‑availability data platforms in regulated environments.
• Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management and data‑privacy regulations.
• Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS preferred) and modern data‑stack technologies.
