Damage Prevention Technician

About the role

Bermex, a provider of meter reading and utility services, is hiring a full-time Damage Prevention Technician in Dansville, NY. The Certified Damage Prevention Technician reports to the Operations Lead and plays a key role in safety and quality while driving, parking and auditing marked gas lines. The job involves a high level of physical activity and working in a wide variety of weather conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with Code Rule 753 and follow strict utility, state and federal damage prevention guidelines
• Wear assigned PPE and company uniform, and follow safety, quality and operational procedures
• Take part in safety meetings and hand out educational materials to excavators
• Visit third-party excavation sites and construction zones regularly, collect data with a handheld tablet or similar device, and complete work orders on assigned dates
• Treat customers and colleagues courteously, travel to sites occasionally and provide timely reports to management
• Escalate issues to the supervisor, maintain a satisfactory attendance record, keep the assigned vehicle clean and report equipment and vehicle issues immediately
• Communicate with dispatchers and perform other duties as needed

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• At least 21 years of age and a valid driver's license
• One year of continuous work with the same employer, or 6+ months working outdoors
• Lives within a 30-minute drive of Dansville, NY
• Enjoys working outdoors and with customers

The base salary range for New York applicants is $18 per hour. Drug and alcohol testing is required.
