About the role

The UHealth Laboratories Department at the University of Miami is seeking an entry‑level Cytogenetics Technologist 1. This position supports routine diagnostic cytogenetic and molecular testing while developing technical proficiency under direct supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine cytogenetic testing following established procedures.
• Prepare and process specimens, including basic cell culture, harvesting, slide preparation, and staining.
• Assist with microscopic analysis, data collection, and preliminary result documentation.
• Document testing activities and results in the laboratory information system.
• Follow laboratory safety, quality control, and regulatory standards.
• Maintain clean work areas and perform routine equipment upkeep.
• Report specimen issues, technical problems, or unexpected findings to senior staff.
• Monitor inventory and restock supplies as needed.
• Participate in onboarding, training, competency assessments, staff meetings, and continuing education.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• No prior professional experience required.
• Valid State of Florida Molecular Pathology Technologist license.
• Ability to learn new procedures and adapt to changing priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
