Cybersecurity Intern

About the role

The Cybersecurity Intern will support the Information Security team in monitoring, compliance, and technical support activities across the institution. Working under the guidance of a cybersecurity analyst and senior IT staff, the intern will gain practical experience in security operations, vulnerability management, and IT security awareness.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in monitoring cybersecurity tools that detect attacks and vulnerabilities.
• Support vulnerability scanning, document findings, and help with remediation.
• Review system logs, IDS alerts, and security reports to identify potential issues.
• Contribute to the IT Security Awareness Program by creating documentation and training materials.
• Provide Tier 1 help‑desk assistance and escalate incidents as needed.
• Help test system updates, patches, and security releases to minimize user impact.
• Create or update technical documentation for systems, applications, and security processes.
• Participate in special cybersecurity or IT‑related projects and collaborate with IT teams on infrastructure initiatives.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in an Associate’s or Bachelor’s program in Cybersecurity, IT, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts and best practices.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.

Required skills

• Familiarity with Windows operating systems.
• Basic knowledge of Active Directory.
• Introductory networking concepts such as IP addressing, VLANs, and TCP/IP.
