Cyber Security Engineer Intern

About the role

Tencent Overseas IT is looking for a motivated Software Engineer to join its Security Team in Palo Alto, California. The intern helps maintain and improve the security infrastructure, protects the organization from cyber threats and ensures compliance with industry standards and regulations. Projects depend on team needs and the intern's interests.

Key responsibilities

• SaaS Platforms & Identity Management: support operations and security of SaaS platforms, contribute to IAM systems and integrations, and work on user authentication and authorization solutions.
• DevOps, SRE & Observability: contribute to deployment pipelines and system reliability, work with monitoring, logging and alerting, develop automation and tooling, and support incident response and troubleshooting.
• Security Operations & Data Pipelines: contribute to security operations and threat monitoring, and develop data ingestion, processing or analytics systems, including storage, querying and real-time data flows.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field; recent graduates preferred.
• Ability to read code, debug issues and understand software architecture.
• Problem-solving, systematic debugging, comfort with ambiguity and quick learning of new tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication, teamwork and openness to feedback and code reviews.

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Go, Java, C++).
• Linux/Unix command line and shell scripting.
• Basic understanding of distributed systems, microservices, containerization (Docker) or virtualization, and networking basics (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS).
• Monitoring, logging or operational concepts.
• Preferred: cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure), Kubernetes, databases, message queues, infrastructure security exposure, and open-source contributions.

What we offer

• Base pay of $27.12 to $51.93 per hour, depending on knowledge, skills and experience.
• 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked and up to 13 paid holidays.
• Full-time interns can enroll in the company-sponsored medical plan.
