Customer Service Associate

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Customer Service associate for its Windsor Heights store. Team members are the friendly face of in-store services such as mailing packages, sending money, cashing checks and buying licenses. The role handles a wide variety of transactions accurately and efficiently while making every customer feel welcomed and valued. It is an hourly position in a fast-paced retail environment.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly, learn their names and make every interaction positive
• Weigh postal packages, run mail through meters and process certified, express, UPS, registered and insured mail
• Process Western Union orders and send faxes for customers
• Sell money orders and cash payroll, personal, ADC and social security checks
• Sell hunting and fishing licenses
• Put money in utility drawers and process paid outs
• Operate the postal register, sign on and off, and count daily coupons and process refunds
• Operate lottery machines, sell and redeem lottery tickets
• Assist customers with dry cleaning where applicable and process bottle refunds
• Help customers at registers and other areas of the store, answer the telephone and use the intercom
• Keep the work area clean and tidy, and work as a team

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Over six months up to one year of similar or related work experience preferred
• Ability to solve practical problems and follow instructions in varied situations
• Ability to perform arithmetic with fractions, decimals and percentages accurately
• Ability to file, organize materials and copy data accurately
• Ability to guide customers and communicate clearly and professionally
• Adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards and store policies
• Punctuality and reporting to work on schedule

Physical demands include frequent standing and walking, repetitive standing, walking, reaching and bending, and, where applicable, using sharp knives and blades and exposure to heat and burn hazards. Training is provided on safety. Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment drug screen.
