Customer Service Associate

About the role

The Customer Service Associate provides fast, accurate and courteous checkout service to shoppers, helping to build confidence and loyalty. This role handles payment processing, manages the front‑end lane, and ensures a smooth flow of groceries through the checkout area.

Key responsibilities

• Create a welcoming environment that makes customers feel important and appreciated.
• Address and resolve customer issues or complaints immediately, escalating to management when necessary.
• Stock and restock front‑end products, manage supplies efficiently, and keep the checkout lane organized.
• Assist in training new cashiers and support lane management according to service standards.
• Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system and handle cash, checks, credit, debit, SNAP EBT, Offline SNAP EBT, WIC, coupons, and reward offers.
• Adhere to cash‑shortage and overage limits, and follow guidelines for restricted items such as alcohol and tobacco.
• Coordinate daily store cash functions, manage self‑checkout lanes, print reports, and perform cash maintenance.
• Troubleshoot front‑end equipment issues using self‑help tools or the retail service help desk.
• Place returned merchandise in appropriate locations and return carts to the corral.
• Maintain safety, food‑handling, sanitation, and regulatory compliance (USDA, COOL, DOA).
• Execute product recalls and withdrawals promptly, and report safety risks, accidents, or illegal activity.

• Strong communication skills for addressing customer concerns.
• Willingness to follow company policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to train and support new cashiers.
