Custodial Worker

About the role

The City of Gainesville Public Works department is hiring a custodial worker for its facilities unit. The work is repetitive manual cleaning and maintenance, performed under close supervision with no supervisory duties. The salary range is $15.00 to $20.70, and the closing date is 11/12/2026.

Key responsibilities

• Sweep and mop floors, clean and vacuum carpets and floors, and wax and buff vinyl tile floors.
• Wash windows, polish furniture, dust woodwork and other articles.
• Collect paper, rubbish and trash, and perform grounds tasks.
• Make minor repairs to buildings, building equipment and furniture.
• Attend work on a continuous and regular basis.
• May frequently drive other employees, depending on assignment and location, and may perform other related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Ability to read and write English.
• Six months of experience in custodial maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Florida driver's license.
• Physical strength and agility, and normal color vision as required by the work.
• Shift work required.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment.
• Operating vacuum cleaners, floor washers and buffers.
• Ability to work effectively with coworkers and the general public.
