About the role
The University of Miami Health System is seeking a PRN Critical Care Technician to support patient care in a fast‑paced clinical environment. The role involves maintaining equipment, assisting with procedures, and providing direct patient support while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain and clean equipment such as IV pumps, glucometer and ultrasound machine using approved disinfectants before and after use.
- Ensure patient areas are stocked with adequate supplies.
- Complete equipment logs, report broken items and initiate work orders for repair.
- Maintain medication refrigerator cleanliness, log temperatures and report deviations.
- Collect vital signs and promptly communicate abnormal findings to senior staff.
- Accompany patients to exam rooms for procedures and prepare rooms with necessary equipment and supplies.
- Assist with simple wound care and follow universal precautions.
- Help lift, position, turn and ambulate patients safely.
- Collect stool, urine and sputum specimens and transport them to the laboratory.
- Report any changes in patient condition or behavior to the assigned nurse.
- Transport patients between clinical areas as needed.
- Adhere to university and unit policies, safeguarding assets and maintaining compliance.
Required profile
- High School Diploma or equivalent with relevant experience, certification or license.
- Minimum three years of experience in a clinical support or similar role.
- Ability to learn new procedures, technologies and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong teamwork, communication and technical proficiency with office software and relevant computer applications.
