Critical Care Technician – Emergency Department (Per Diem)

About the role

The University of Miami is seeking a Per Diem Critical Care Technician to support the Emergency Department. This PRN position provides hands‑on patient care, equipment management, and assistance to clinical staff in a fast‑paced emergency setting.

Key responsibilities

• Clean and maintain intravenous pumps, glucometers, ultrasound machines, and other equipment using approved disinfectants.
• Ensure patient areas are stocked with necessary supplies and maintain equipment logs.
• Monitor medication refrigerator temperature, keep logs, and report deviations.
• Collect vital signs and promptly communicate any abnormalities to senior staff.
• Accompany patients to exam rooms and prepare rooms with required equipment and supplies.
• Provide basic wound care and follow universal precautions.
• Assist with patient lifting, positioning, turning, and ambulation.
• Collect and transport stool, urine, and sputum specimens to the laboratory.
• Report changes in patient condition or behavior to the assigned nurse.
• Transport patients between designated areas as needed.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent; relevant experience, certification, or license.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant clinical experience.
• Required certifications: EMT/PMD (as per department), BLS‑CPR, ACLS, PALS.
• Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and adapt to changing priorities.
