Cost Estimator

About the role

Mid-State Welding is seeking a detail‑oriented Cost Estimator to expand its estimating capacity. The role involves detailed takeoffs, reviewing project scope, coordinating supplier pricing, and preparing estimates for leadership review.

Key responsibilities

• Review structural, architectural and miscellaneous‑metal drawings, specifications, addenda and bid instructions.
• Perform detailed material takeoffs for a wide range of steel components and related materials.
• Develop comprehensive project estimates including material quantities, labor, pricing, waste factors, coatings, freight and outside services.
• Verify vendor quotes for completeness and prepare estimates for leadership review.
• Track submitted bids and compare estimated costs against actual project results.
• Manage multiple estimates simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

Required profile

• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
• Strong Excel and general computer skills.
• Experience in structural steel, miscellaneous metals, steel fabrication, detailing or construction estimating.
• Understanding of steel purchasing, processing, fabrication and shipping.
• Analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail.

Required skills

• Microsoft Excel
• Tekla PowerFab or similar steel fabrication/estimating software
• 3D/BIM modeling experience (preferred)

• Salary $75,000 – $80,000 per year (based on experience)
