Correctional Nurse Practitioner

About the role

The Correctional Nurse Practitioner (PRN) provides comprehensive health care to inmates at the Baltimore Central Booking Intake Facility (BCBIC Sally Port). This part‑time, weekend position supports the safety and well‑being of the correctional population while collaborating with physicians and other staff.

Key responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive physical examinations and diagnose/treat acute and chronic illnesses.
• Prescribe, administer, and dispense medications, maintaining accurate medication records.
• Educate inmates on treatment plans, illness prevention, and health‑related topics.
• Document patient encounters and maintain up‑to‑date records in the electronic health record system.
• Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to develop and adjust treatment plans.
• Ensure facility security and safety in coordination with correctional staff.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
• Active Nurse Practitioner license with board certification (Family, Adult‑Gerontology, or equivalent).
• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States; no sponsorship provided.
• Ability to pass background checks and obtain required facility clearances.

• Medication management and prescribing authority.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with staff and inmate populations.
