Core Facility Research Specialist 1

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Hussman Institute is seeking a full‑time Core Facility Research Specialist 1 to support its revenue‑generating shared‑resource core facilities. The incumbent will execute complex research protocols, maintain equipment, and serve as a liaison among the core director, lab supervisors, and research staff.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain sophisticated scientific equipment such as pipettes, centrifuges, heat blocks, and thermocyclers.
• Assist in developing new core procedures and ensure compliance with regulatory policies.
• Review laboratory results, record data in notebooks or databases, and follow standard operating procedures.
• Manage inventory of supplies and reagents, place orders, verify receipts, and track stock levels.
• Perform QA/QC, routine maintenance, and minor repairs on laboratory instruments, coordinating with service engineers when needed.
• Document all laboratory work and client interactions with meticulous record‑keeping.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to process confidential information discreetly.
• Excellent organizational skills, capable of prioritizing work under pressure and meeting deadlines.
• Effective interpersonal communication, both verbal and written.

Required skills

• Proficiency with molecular genetics techniques and equipment (nanodrop, Qubit fluorometer, Agilent BioAnalyzer/TapeStation, gel electrophoresis).
• Experience using standard lab tools such as single‑ and multi‑channel pipettes, centrifuges, heat blocks, and thermocyclers.
• Ability to learn and operate new software, cloud‑based tools, webforms, and databases.
• Competence in QA/QC procedures and equipment maintenance.
