Core Facility Research Specialist 1 – Full‑Time

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Hussman Institute seeks a Core Facility Research Specialist 1 to support revenue‑generating shared‑resource core facilities. The role involves executing complex research protocols, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with laboratory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in operation of sophisticated scientific equipment and development of new core procedures.
• Maintain laboratory compliance, inventory, ordering, and records according to SOPs.
• Perform QA/QC, equipment maintenance and minor repairs, and coordinate with service engineers.
• Document laboratory results in notebooks or databases and ensure accurate data entry.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures.
• Ability to handle confidential information and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Effective interpersonal and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Operation of standard lab equipment such as single‑ and multi‑channel pipettes, centrifuges, heat blocks, and thermocyclers.
• DNA/RNA quantitation using Nanodrop, Qubit fluorometer, Agilent BioAnalyzer/Tapestation, and gel electrophoresis.
• Basic molecular genetics techniques and proficiency with laboratory software, cloud‑based tools, and databases.
• Inventory management, ordering, and receipt verification of supplies and reagents.
