Core Facility Research Specialist 1 – Biorepository

About the role

The University of Miami’s Hussman Institute is seeking a Core Facility Research Specialist 1 to support its biorepository shared‑resource core. The role involves executing complex research protocols, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring compliance within a revenue‑generating environment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain sophisticated scientific equipment, including pipettes, centrifuges, heat blocks, and thermocyclers.
• Perform DNA/RNA quantitation using nanodrop, Qubit fluorometer, Agilent BioAnalyzer/Tapestation, and gel electrophoresis.
• Manage inventory of supplies and reagents, place orders, verify receipts, and maintain accurate stock records.
• Execute QA/QC procedures, troubleshoot equipment issues, and coordinate with service engineers.
• Document laboratory results and client interactions in lab notebooks or databases following SOPs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures.
• Capability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Effective interpersonal and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with molecular genetics techniques and laboratory instrumentation.
• Experience using nanodrop, Qubit fluorometer, Agilent BioAnalyzer/Tapestation, and gel electrophoresis.
• Competence in operating single‑ and multi‑channel pipettes, centrifuges, heat blocks, and thermocyclers.
• Basic computational skills for software, cloud‑based tools, and database entry.
