Controller – Real Estate Investment

About the role

The Real Estate Investment Firm is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting function in Chicago. This senior‑level position will oversee all corporate financial activities, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and mentor accounting teams, reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Oversee full‑cycle accounting, including monthly, quarterly and annual close processes.
• Ensure all balance‑sheet accounts are reconciled monthly and review property‑level payables and receivables.
• Maintain property fixed‑asset records and supervise corporate budgeting, forecasting, tax, treasury and risk functions.
• Prepare and approve corporate reports, quarterly valuation summaries and strategic business analyses.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• CPA certification.
• Minimum 7 years of accounting experience, including at least 1 year as a Controller.
• Prior experience with institutional real‑estate accounting.
• Big 4 or mid‑tier audit experience preferred.
