Controller – Construction Accounting

About the role

Ledgent Accounting & Finance is looking for a strategic, hands‑on Controller to support a growing construction client’s accounting team near Vernon, CA. The role blends project accounting, cost analysis, and financial oversight to drive profitability and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee project accounting, including work‑in‑progress (WIP), job costing, progress billings, and revenue recognition.
• Monitor project margins, identify financial risks, and partner with Operations to improve profitability.
• Lead inventory and cost accounting activities, analyzing labor, materials, and overhead.
• Own month‑end close, financial reporting, and audit readiness.
• Manage cash‑flow forecasting and working‑capital planning.
• Strengthen internal controls and enhance financial processes and systems.
• Develop and lead the accounting team while acting as a key business partner to senior leadership.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a focus on construction industry accounting.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, revenue recognition, and cost/job accounting.
• Proven leadership ability and a balance of strategic thinking and hands‑on execution.
