Control Systems Project Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Control Systems Project Engineer to join our Petrochemicals team at BASF’s Freeport, Texas site. In this senior technical position you will lead the design, execution, and commissioning of control‑system capital projects that drive operational excellence and long‑term sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead PLC modernization, replacement, and lifecycle management initiatives.
• Act as the technical authority for control‑systems project scope, cost, schedule, and performance.
• Develop and implement lifecycle strategies for aging automation platforms while ensuring safe plant operation.
• Apply continuous‑improvement practices to optimize project cost, reliability, and operability.
• Guarantee full compliance with environmental, health, and safety requirements.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Project Management to deliver high‑quality technical solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, Automation engineering or a related discipline.
• Significant experience leading industrial automation capital projects, especially control‑system replacement and modernization.
• Hands‑on experience designing, implementing, and commissioning PLC and DCS upgrades in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong technical leadership and ability to manage complex project deliverables.
