Construction Worker II – General Construction & Maintenance

About the role

The Construction Worker II performs a wide range of construction, maintenance, repair and remodeling tasks for city facilities, parks and other structures. The role involves both interior and exterior work, requiring the ability to read plans, operate equipment and follow safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Renovate wooden, concrete, brick and metal buildings using rough and finish carpentry, masonry, block laying, painting, plumbing, basic electrical, minor welding, plastering, roofing, tiling, fence installation and sheetrock work.
• Perform interior and exterior rough carpentry, frame additions, stairs and ramps.
• Construct cement structures, form and pour sidewalks, drive pads, curbs, steps and ramps, then finish the concrete.
• Read and follow blueprints, sketches and diagrams to meet project specifications.
• Repair and remodel interiors, install flooring, paneling, and finish sheetrock.
• Install and repair wood and metal doors, frames, windows and high‑security locksets.
• Operate hydraulic and power equipment for fencing and other tasks.
• Lead and train laborers or helpers, and respond to public inquiries courteously.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED plus at least 30 credit hours of specialized training in construction, carpentry, plumbing or welding.
• Minimum two years of general construction experience.
• Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
