Construction Superintendent 3 (Term Position)

About the role

The Construction Superintendent team at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a Superintendent 3 to lead construction projects up to $500 k and provide oversight to lower‑level superintendents, supporting the laboratory’s mission.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage construction projects with budgets under $500 k.
• Provide oversight and guidance to Superintendent 2 personnel.
• Investigate abnormal events, incidents, or accidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Serve as Control Account Manager, handling planning, budgeting, cost and schedule control, and acting as the primary point of contact for project controls.
• Ensure work packages accurately reflect required duration and budget, perform variance analysis, and develop corrective action plans.
• Present project performance plans, status updates, trends, and issues to federal sponsors.
• Conduct constructability reviews and assess impacts on cost and schedule.
• Maintain flexible work hours, including days and nights as needed.

Required profile

• Proven leadership and management experience directing construction teams, schedules, and resources.
• Advanced knowledge of all phases of construction, upgrades, renovations, and de‑contamination & demolition.
• Strong understanding of collective bargaining agreements, safety practices, lock‑out/tag‑out policies, and hazard mitigation.
• Ability to engage customers and collaborate with program, project, and line management to develop actionable plans.

• Risk identification, mitigation planning, and corrective action development.
• Constructability review and cost‑schedule impact analysis.
• Facility maintenance and construction management, including systems engineering design.
• Configuration management and work‑control processes.

• Interpretation of blueprints, drawings, schematics, and technical documents.
