Construction Procurement Buyer

About the role

The Construction Procurement Buyer at Meijer procures services, fixtures and equipment for the Meijer Properties organization. The role balances cost, quality, delivery and service in a fast-paced environment, works closely with business stakeholders and evaluates suppliers, negotiates and administers contracts. It is based in Grand Rapids.

Key responsibilities

• Generate new or revise purchase orders in the procurement system and verify supplier, shipping, budget, tax and commodity data.
• Manage supplier relationships and performance, and communicate quality, cost and delivery issues to trigger corrective action.
• Spot source items to meet purchase requisitions and requests for quotation, prepare and modify specifications, and run inquiries, expediting, quote analysis and compliance audits.
• Analyze bid results, recommend awards, authorize and sign purchase orders, and occasionally support shipment expediting.
• Track commodity performance metrics and report to departmental leadership, and develop cost savings, inventory, supplier and item-complexity reduction goals.
• Report budget status and costs for new stores, remodels and projects, and support the approval of team member requisitions.
• Resolve purchase order discrepancies with Vendor Accounting, suppliers and store locations, and take part in designing new fixtures, equipment and services.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business or Supply Chain preferred.
• 2+ years of professional purchasing experience.
• Purchasing, supplier collaboration or supply chain experience.
• Strong financial and analytical acumen, time management, customer service and communication skills, and ability to work in teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Processing requisitions and purchase orders.
