Construction Manager

About the role

Axalta is looking for a Construction Manager for its Front Royal, Virginia site in the manufacturing industry (paint, coatings, chemicals). The manager leads the on-site Axalta Construction Team and acts as the main contact for non-resident third-party construction contractors, ensuring safe construction activities and minimizing disruption to plant operations. The role is first shift (days) and pays depending on experience.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, schedule and coordinate construction activities with Project Team Leads, and give them periodic progress updates
• Oversee capital projects and significant maintenance projects, keeping them safe, on time and in budget
• Act as the field administrator for capital project construction at the site and lead the mechanical and electrical construction crews on safety, quality and efficiency
• Monitor charging rates of the construction crews and review change orders from third-party contractors
• Coach, counsel and develop employees, and take corrective action when performance falls short
• Ensure work follows approved drawings, methods and safety rules, and that equipment systems are installed and functioning
• Coordinate with engineers and contractors so mechanical systems integrate with other building systems
• Participate in constructability reviews and continuous improvement (Kaizen) activities

Required profile

• High school diploma minimum; bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent with 20+ years of related experience in industrial plant maintenance or industrial construction
• Previous people management experience required
• Extensive experience with general work, hot work, confined space entry and crane lift permitting, preferably at Axalta
• Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime, and to climb ladders or scaffolds while wearing a safety harness

Required skills

• Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and SAP (maintenance or project transactions)
• Microsoft Project or similar preferred
• Project management, reading blueprints and technical documents, and writing routine reports
