Construction Inspector I – Laredo Area Office

About the role

We are seeking a Construction Inspector I to join our Laredo Area Office. The inspector will ensure that roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports and related structures are built in compliance with plans, specifications and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect construction methods and workmanship on highways, bridges, and related structures.
• Attend pre‑construction meetings, answer contractor queries, and resolve plan interpretation issues.
• Monitor project phasing, traffic control plans and safety standards, including barricade inspections and traffic device adjustments.
• Perform material tests, manufacturing inspections, and on‑site testing procedures.
• Prepare and review payment calculations, change orders, and supplemental agreements.
• Maintain construction records, document progress, and generate inspection reports.
• Assist in data collection, assessments and analysis for engineering plan development.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• No prior experience required.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license; ability to operate a state vehicle.
• Ability to work independently under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer.

Required skills

• Knowledge of applicable plans, specifications and inspection procedures.
• Basic traffic management and control procedures, including the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
• Proficiency in performing material and labor calculations and engineering estimates.
• Familiarity with construction testing methods and safety standards.
